Dear Customers,
Yesterday and today we experienced a set of interfering carriers on MESRP and MESRQ channels which caused call failures on Mini-M, GAN, and Fleet in the POR. During the incidents we attempted to move these channels to other frequencies but had only limited success. At around 11.07 UTC today the interference disappeared. This issue is currently being treated as the number one priority within Inmarsat operations.
We would like to thank all of you for your cooperation over the past two days in carrying out the checks we have requested, and for promptly sending us various plots and test results.
We do not yet know the cause of the interference nor do we know whether it will recur. However, we do have some solid ideas on how to manage it with minimal impact to traffic, should it reappear. Over the coming weekend we will be watching the situation closely. We have a set of plans in place and staff on call specifically to combat any further interference incidents of this type. We have come up with these plans after careful study of the nature of the interference and consideration of various options.
In addition to the technical plans, we will be working with national regulatory authorities in the region the interference originates. We expect to work closely with them until the source of interference is eliminated.
The Inmarsat NOC may be asking LES’s operating within the POR for further efforts in the next few days.
